As electricity consumption continues to rise, particularly during periods of elevated temperatures, the resilience of distribution infrastructure is becoming increasingly important for economic productivity and urban liveability.

Industry observers argue that investment in utility modernisation often receives less public attention than transport or real estate projects, despite its central role in supporting city growth. Reliable electricity networks underpin healthcare facilities, educational institutions, digital services, transport systems and commercial activity. In this context, the underground cable replacement effort represents a broader attempt to future-proof essential infrastructure rather than simply address isolated faults. Authorities have simultaneously approved measures aimed at strengthening emergency response capacity. Plans include expanding technical field teams, improving fault detection capabilities, deploying additional restoration equipment and establishing a dedicated control centre to coordinate outage management across the network. Urban planners suggest that such investments are increasingly necessary as cities adapt to climate-related pressures and growing energy requirements.
