Mumbai Metro 3 has added 46 weekday services from November 2, taking the total number of daily trips on the Aqua Line to 337 as rising ridership prompts the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) to increase train frequency.
Average daily ridership on the corridor has risen from around 2 lakh in June to 2.35 lakh, according to MMRC. The additional services are intended to ease overcrowding and reduce waiting times for commuters using the Aarey JVLR-Cuffe Parade corridor.
The increase has also shortened the gap between trains during peak hours. The interval has been reduced from 4 minutes 50 seconds to 4 minutes 25 seconds, giving commuters more frequent services during the busiest periods of the day.
The latest revision follows a series of service increases after operations began on the entire Metro 3 corridor. Daily trips were initially raised to 271 after full-corridor operations commenced. The number was subsequently increased to 282 on June 23 and 291 on September 28.
With the latest addition, weekday services have reached 337 daily trips. MMRC said the revised timetable would provide higher frequency and greater convenience to commuters travelling along the corridor, which connects Aarey and JVLR with Cuffe Parade.
The increase comes as Metro 3 handles a growing number of passengers following the expansion of operations across the full corridor. The ridership rise from approximately 2 lakh daily passengers in June to 2.35 lakh indicates stronger use of the line since the earlier service changes.
Weekend services will continue to operate under a separate timetable. MMRC said it would monitor ridership and operational requirements before assessing whether further service enhancements are needed.
