Mumbai local train services on the Western Railway network will face changes on Sunday as the railway undertakes a four-hour jumbo block between Ram Mandir and Borivali for track, signalling and overhead equipment maintenance.
The block will be carried out from 10 am to 2 pm on the UP Fast and 5th lines. During this period, trains operating on the UP Fast line will be diverted to the UP Slow and 6th lines between Borivali and Andheri. Mumbai local services using the 5th line will run on the DOWN Fast line between Andheri and Borivali.
Western Railway said some UP and DOWN suburban services would remain cancelled during the maintenance window. Some Andheri and Borivali services on the Harbour line will also operate only up to Goregaon. The changes are expected to affect passengers travelling across the western suburban section during the block.
The railway said details of the affected services would be displayed at stations across the suburban section. Commuters have been advised to check the revised service information before starting their journey.
The announcement was made in a press release issued by Western Railway and attributed to Vineet Abhishek, the railway’s chief public relations officer. The work covers three operational systems that are essential to safe and reliable suburban train movement: tracks, signalling systems and overhead equipment.
Separately, Central Railway will operate traffic and power blocks at Kasara for 12 days from October 7 to 18 for work linked to the Asangaon-Kasara third-line project and the extension of the UP yard line towards Igatpuri. The work will include pre-Non-Interlocking, Non-Interlocking and post-Non-Interlocking activities at Kasara Yard.
Suburban services between Asangaon and Kasara will not be available during the specified block periods. On October 7 and 8, several CSMT-Kasara locals will be short-terminated at Asangaon. The CSMT-Kasara services scheduled to depart at 1.10 pm, 2.17 pm, 2.46 pm and 4.50 pm will terminate at Asangaon instead.
In the reverse direction, services scheduled to leave Kasara for CSMT at 3.35 pm, 4.16 pm, 5.02 pm and 6.17 pm will originate from Asangaon at 4.12 pm, 4.54 pm, 5.39 pm and 6.54 pm, respectively. The last CSMT-Kasara local before the block on October 7 and 8 will leave at 12.30 pm, while the last Kasara-CSMT service will depart at 2.42 pm.
The first CSMT-Kasara local after the block will depart at 6.28 pm, and the first Kasara-CSMT local will leave at 8.35 pm. Four suburban services will be cancelled during the overnight block on October 8 and 9, including services between CSMT, Kasara, Titwala and Thane.
Central Railway said the Asangaon-Kasara third line forms part of the larger third- and fourth-line project between Kasara and Kalyan. According to the railway, the additional line is intended to segregate Mail and Express trains from suburban services, increase line capacity and improve train regulation and movement. It said the full operational benefits would become available after the entire project is completed and commissioned.
Both railway zones have asked passengers to check service information and cooperate with the administration while the infrastructure works are carried out.
