Mumbai suburban train commuters will face diversions, cancellations and service suspensions on Central Railway’s Main and Harbour lines during engineering blocks on Sunday, while Western Railway will have no day block. The changes will affect services between Matunga and Mulund, and between Kurla and Vashi, during the late-morning and afternoon travel period.
On the Main Line, Central Railway will operate a block between Matunga and Mulund on the fast lines from 11.05am to 3.45pm. Down fast-line services leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus between 10.36am and 3.10pm will be diverted to the Down slow line at Matunga. These trains will halt at all scheduled stations before rejoining the fast line at Mulund, resulting in delays of around 15 minutes at destinations.
In the opposite direction, Up fast trains departing Thane between 11.03am and 3.38pm will run on the Up slow line between Mulund and Matunga. The change will add extra stops to the affected services as they use the slow-line route during the engineering work.
Central Railway has also rescheduled the 1.48pm Khopoli-CSMT local. The train will instead depart at 2.06pm. Commuters using the Main Line during the block period will therefore need to account for both the planned diversions and the additional travel time on affected fast services.
On the Harbour Line, services between Kurla and Vashi will remain suspended in both directions from 11.10am to 4.10pm. Down services to Vashi, Belapur and Panvel leaving CSMT between 10.34am and 3.36pm will be cancelled. Up services from Panvel, Belapur and Vashi departing between 10.17am and 3.47pm will also be cancelled.
Special local services will operate between CSMT and Kurla, and between Panvel and Vashi, during the Harbour Line block. Trans-Harbour and Uran Port Line services will run according to the Sunday schedule.
Harbour Line commuters will be permitted to travel via the Thane–Vashi/Nerul route between 10am and 6pm. This alternative is intended to provide connectivity during the suspension between Kurla and Vashi, although passengers will need to plan their journeys around the specified access window and Sunday service pattern.
The block is being undertaken for engineering works, according to the report published by Times of India. Western Railway will not operate a day block on Sunday, leaving its daytime suburban services outside the announced disruption. Central Railway’s stated block timings and replacement arrangements will determine how services operate until the engineering work is completed.
