Mumbai local trains will get 22 additional overnight services on the Main and Harbour lines during Ganeshotsav, with Central Railway scheduling the trains to support devotees travelling for celebrations and Ganesh idol immersions. The services will operate across three nights on the Main Line and one night on the Harbour Line.
Central Railway will run 18 special suburban trains between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Kalyan and Thane on the nights of September 23-24, September 24-25 and September 25-26. Four additional services will operate between CSMT and Panvel on the night of September 25-26, which coincides with Ganpati immersion activity.
The special trains will halt at all stations along their respective routes. On the Main Line, the down services from CSMT will include a CSMT-Kalyan train departing at 1.40 am and reaching Kalyan at 3.10 am, a CSMT-Thane train departing at 2.30 am and reaching Thane at 3.30 am, and another CSMT service departing at 3.25 am and reaching Thane at 4.55 am.
On the up Main Line, a Kalyan-CSMT special will depart Kalyan at 12.05 am and arrive at CSMT at 1.30 am. Two Thane-CSMT services will depart at 1 am and 2 am, reaching CSMT at 2 am and 3 am respectively. These services will run on all three Main Line special-service nights.
On the Harbour Line, the four services will operate only during the night of September 25-26. Two down trains will leave CSMT for Panvel at 1.30 am and 2.45 am, reaching Panvel at 2.50 am and 4.05 am. In the opposite direction, trains will leave Panvel for CSMT at 1 am and 1.45 am, arriving at 2.20 am and 3.05 am.
The overnight timetable extends Mumbai’s suburban rail network beyond its regular operating pattern during one of the city’s busiest festival periods. It is intended to provide an additional public transport option for passengers returning from Ganeshotsav events and for devotees travelling during immersion-related activity.
Central Railway has appealed to passengers to use the special Mumbai suburban train services being operated for the Ganpati festival. The additional services will conclude with the scheduled operations on the Main Line on the night of September 25-26 and the Harbour Line services on the same night.
