Mumbai Fire Contained at Sakinaka Scrap Market, No Injuries Reported

A Mumbai fire broke out at Annasagar Scrap Market in the Jarimari area of Sakinaka on Tuesday evening, prompting a response from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, civic ward staff and emergency services. The blaze was confined to scrap material and no injuries were reported, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The fire was reported at around 7.15 pm at the scrap market located along Kurla-Andheri Road. The Mumbai Fire Brigade declared the incident a Level-I fire and began firefighting operations at the site.

According to the initial information shared by the civic authorities, the fire remained restricted to scrap material. The BMC said that further details about the incident were awaited.

The response involved the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police personnel, the concerned electricity distribution company, BMC ward staff and a 108 ambulance. The mobilisation of the electricity distribution company was part of the emergency response at the market site. No injuries had been reported when the civic authorities issued the initial update.

Scrap markets and storage areas can involve combustible materials packed into closely spaced premises, making access and containment important during a fire response. In this incident, the civic account stated that the blaze was confined to the scrap material, without reporting damage beyond the affected stock.

The Sakinaka incident followed another fire-related operation in Malad West. A fire that began at a wooden warehouse on Anand Road on Monday night was extinguished by the Mumbai Fire Brigade at 1.31 am on Tuesday, November 3, according to the civic body. No injuries were reported in that incident either.

The Malad warehouse was located near Ruia Marriage Hall and Vallabhdas Nagraj School and occupied the ground floor of a ground-plus-two-storey structure. The fire was confined to wooden planks and cardboard stock stored on the ground floor. The Mumbai Fire Brigade received the call at around 9 pm on November 2 and declared it a Level-I call at 9.13 pm.

Police personnel, BMC Solid Waste Management staff and ward officials were also mobilised during the Malad operation. Firefighting continued for more than four hours before the blaze was declared extinguished. The civic authorities have not provided further details about the cause of either fire in the information available.
