MTDC Installs EV Chargers at 49 State Resorts

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has unveiled plans to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at 49 of its resorts across the state.

This initiative aims to bolster eco-friendly travel options for tourists and support the growing adoption of electric vehicles in Maharashtra. The rollout has commenced with the installation of EV charging points at MTDC’s Boat Club and Grape Park resorts, both situated on the scenic backwaters of Gangapur Dam near Nashik. Each location is equipped with two charging stations, capable of servicing four electric vehicles simultaneously. This infrastructure is designed to cater to the increasing number of EV owners seeking convenient charging facilities during their travels.

MTDC plans to lease approximately 50 square meters of space at each resort to private contractors responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of the charging stations. These leases will span an initial period of 10 years, with an option for renewal for another decade, ensuring long-term sustainability of the infrastructure. The distribution of the 49 charging stations will be strategically spread across key regions in Maharashtra. The Nagpur region will host the highest number with 13 stations, followed by Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg with 10, Pune with nine, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with seven, and six charging points near Mumbai. In Nashik, besides the two stations at Gangapur Dam resorts, charging points will also be installed at MTDC properties in Bhandardara and Shirdi within the Ahilyanagar district.

MTDC has invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) from companies interested in partnering on this green infrastructure project. The last date for submission is June 4, with the bids scheduled to be opened on June 5. This initiative aligns with Maharashtra’s broader goals to promote electric mobility, reduce pollution, and enhance tourist experiences through modern amenities. As electric vehicles gain traction across cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur, MTDC’s efforts will play a crucial role in supporting sustainable travel across the state. By integrating EV charging infrastructure into its resorts, MTDC is not only facilitating eco-friendly tourism but also contributing to the state’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
