Mira Bhayandar recorded the immersion of 22,441 Ganpati and Gauri idols during this year’s festival, including 3,749 idols on Anant Chaturdashi, according to data released by the municipal corporation. The final-day total included 176 public idols measuring more than six feet in height.
The municipal corporation said the overall figure covered household and public Ganpati idols as well as Gauri idols immersed during the festival period. Of the total, 6,395 were Shadu clay idols and 15,817 were plaster of Paris (PoP) idols. The civic data also recorded 229 idols measuring more than six feet.
Anant Chaturdashi saw a particularly large number of household and public immersions across the city. The corporation’s figures for Friday included Shadu and PoP idols, along with the larger public idols that required arrangements beyond the facilities used for smaller household immersions.
For smaller idols, the administration had established artificial immersion ponds. These facilities were intended to provide designated locations for immersions within the city during the festival. The municipal corporation has not provided further details in the supplied report on the number or location of the artificial ponds.
Large idols were immersed in the creek with assistance from a roll-on, roll-off, or Ro-Ro, service. The report said this was the first time the service had been used for idol immersion in Mira Bhayandar. The arrangement was used for idols measuring more than six feet, including the large public idols immersed on Anant Chaturdashi.
The material-wise figures show that PoP idols accounted for the larger share of the recorded immersions, while the corporation separately identified the Shadu idols and those exceeding six feet. The municipal corporation’s consolidated total, which includes Gauri idols, was 22,441 immersions for the festival. The Friday total was 3,749 idols, including 176 idols above six feet.
