Mira Bhayandar Ganeshotsav | September 3, 2026 — The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation has prohibited unauthorised advertisements at Ganeshotsav mandap sites during the festival and warned that organisers violating the policy will face legal action.
The decision was communicated at a public meeting organised by Mayor Dimple Mehta in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Radha Binod Sharma and Police Commissioner Aniket Kaushik. Representatives of public Ganeshotsav mandals were asked to attend the meeting, where officials outlined rules for mandap installations, restrictions on DJ use, immersion arrangements and other festival-related requirements.
The administration said the municipal policy against unauthorised advertising would be implemented strictly during Ganeshotsav, Dahi Handi and Navratri celebrations. Mira Bhayandar has more than 200 registered public Ganeshotsav mandals, while the number of households installing Ganesh idols has crossed 10,000, according to the report.
In previous years, mandals had been allowed to display advertisements in a limited form at festival venues. The administration said the permission was being withdrawn after several locations saw large advertising hoardings erected in violation of the rules. Officials warned that legal action would follow if the restrictions were breached.
The decision has drawn opposition from several festival organisers, who have asked the administration to permit advertisements during the celebrations. Organisers say public Ganeshotsav events are funded largely through donations and that displaying donor advertisements is necessary to support the festivities.
Prasad Surve, president of the Mira Bhayandar Public Ganeshotsav Coordination Committee, said organisers had requested temporary relaxation of the policy during the festival period. The administration’s meeting also addressed the broader coordination of public celebrations, including mandap permissions, sound restrictions and idol immersion arrangements.
