Plans for a cricket stadium in Mangaluru have moved into site discussions, with the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) informing the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) that two locations have already been identified for consideration.
MUDA president Santhosh Kumar Shetty discussed the proposal with KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad and other office-bearers, according to a report by Prajavani. The meeting focused on the possibility of constructing a cricket stadium in the coastal city and on identifying a suitable location for the facility.
Shetty said Prasad is interested in developing a stadium in Mangaluru and has assured the authority that he will visit the city shortly to review the locations and help determine the site. The two locations identified by MUDA were brought to the KSCA president’s attention during the discussion.
The next round of consultations is expected to involve Karnataka’s district-in-charge minister for Dakshina Kannada, U.T. Khader. Shetty said discussions with the minister would be held in Mangaluru. The report did not specify the names, size or ownership status of the two sites under consideration.
Shetty described Mangaluru as a suitable location because of its connectivity. He said the city has transport links and other forms of connectivity that could support the development of a cricket stadium. The KSCA, he added, would make every effort to take the proposal forward immediately.
The proposal currently represents an early stage of institutional discussion rather than a formally announced construction project. No final site, land-allocation decision, project cost, seating capacity, design, construction schedule or funding arrangement was disclosed in the report. These details would determine the scale of the facility and the approvals required before construction could begin.
The meeting was attended by KSCA treasurer B.N. Madhukar, executive committee member Parinitha and member Anoop Sridhar. Their participation indicates that the discussion involved representatives from the cricket association as well as the city’s urban development authority.
For Mangaluru, the immediate development is the identification of two possible locations and the proposed site visit by the KSCA president. The next confirmed step is the expected visit by Prasad, followed by consultations involving the city authorities and the district-in-charge minister. Further decisions on the site and the project’s implementation will depend on those discussions.
