Lucknow Launches Rs400 Crore City Plan

Lucknow is poised for a major infrastructure transformation with the Municipal Corporation announcing development works worth over ₹400 crore aimed at improving urban mobility

waste management, water infrastructure, and the city’s green footprint. The push reflects a growing commitment to sustainable urban development and pollution control, aligned with both environmental priorities and citizen welfare.
The massive investment will be spread across three main schemes — the Infrastructure Fund, the Solid Waste Management Scheme, and the Air Quality Improvement Scheme. While ₹160 crore is earmarked for upgrading roads and drains, ₹173 crore is dedicated to strengthening the waste management ecosystem, and ₹74 crore will support clean air and climate-resilient measures.
Of the total outlay, road infrastructure will receive a significant boost, with ₹134 crore going towards the construction of new roads and the repair of existing ones. A further ₹60 crore will be used to overhaul drainage systems to mitigate flooding during monsoon months — a recurrent problem in many city localities.

Improving the city’s street lighting network is also on the cards, with over ₹60 crore allocated to modernise and install lighting systems in both urban and rural pockets.
A major focus is being placed on cleaning and green cover. The city’s iconic Kathauta Lake will be rejuvenated with a ₹10 crore initiative, while neglected parks will see a revival under an ₹8 crore urban beautification plan. Additionally, the Nagar Van Yojana will bring new green spaces to life, backed by ₹6.7 crore, alongside ₹16.2 crore for creating dense Miyawaki-style forests — a method known for restoring biodiversity in urban areas. The move towards a cleaner and healthier city continues with ₹14 crore directed at pollution control under environmental initiatives. Procurement of anti-smog guns and creation of a dedicated air quality cell further underscore the commitment to breathable air in the capital.

Waste management is being treated with long-term vision — ₹100 crore is set to develop transfer stations for waste sorting and processing, a key need in a city where landfills continue to be overburdened. Other civic upgrades include plans for new tube wells, flood control infrastructure, welcome gates at city entrances, and a new municipal workshop.Though an important planning meeting was postponed recently, implementation is expected to move swiftly in the coming weeks. These efforts are not just about urban aesthetics; they represent a deeper push to build a future-ready, climate-resilient city that meets the aspirations of its growing population. With this initiative, Lucknow is signalling its shift towards more inclusive, green, and technologically enabled infrastructure development. If delivered efficiently, the projects could set a benchmark for other tier-2 cities across India aiming to evolve into modern urban centres while keeping sustainability at the core.
