BRS working president K T Rama Rao has announced that his party will oppose any move to weaken or privatise Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), while asking party leaders to raise alleged irregularities in the company’s tenders, coal production, financial management and release of funds.
Rama Rao made the remarks at a meeting at Telangana Bhavan attended by BRS MLAs, former MLAs, senior leaders from the Singareni region and representatives of the Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS). The meeting also focused on preparations for the upcoming Singareni workers’ union elections.
According to the report, Rama Rao said the BRS would continue its campaign to protect Singareni and safeguard the rights and welfare of its coal mine workers. He asked party leaders to take the issues discussed at the meeting to the public and hold the Congress government in Telangana accountable.
The concerns raised at the meeting included alleged irregularities in tendering, declining coal production, financial management and delays in releasing funds due to the company. The report does not provide financial figures, production data or documentary details supporting the allegations. The claims therefore remain attributed to the BRS and its leadership.
Rama Rao also asked BRS and TBGKS leaders to maintain contact with workers, strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level and continue their campaign for workers’ rights, bonuses and other benefits. The meeting discussed the party’s future course of action after the recent Singareni Karmika Garjana public meeting in Godavarikhani, which the BRS said saw significant participation from workers and party supporters.
The BRS leader further called on party leaders to question both the Telangana Congress government and the BJP-led central government over policies affecting Singareni. He said protecting the company and its workforce remained a key objective of the party.
Rama Rao also asked leaders to publicise initiatives that the previous BRS government had introduced or supported, including profit-sharing, dependent employment opportunities, healthcare facilities and welfare programmes for workers’ families. He said workers should be informed about differences between the earlier administration’s approach and the current situation. The immediate next step discussed at the meeting is the party’s mobilisation ahead of the Singareni workers’ union elections.
