Krishnagiri Child Labour Case: Five Minors Rescued from Kiln

Five minors aged between 14 and 17 were rescued from alleged bonded labour at a brick kiln in Ennakoḷpudur area of Krishnagiri district after revenue officials investigated a complaint about their employment, according to Dinamalar.

The children had reportedly been working at a kiln owned by Perumal, 45, for about a year. The complaint was received by the revenue department, following which a team of officials led by Tahsildar Rajalakshmi visited the site and conducted an inquiry.

The officials confirmed that the minors had been working under bonded-labour conditions, the report said. The five children were subsequently rescued and produced before Krishnagiri Revenue Divisional Officer Shajahan.

After the proceedings, the children were sent back to their respective native villages. The report does not provide details of any rehabilitation assistance, compensation or follow-up monitoring arrangements.

The case also highlights the role of local revenue authorities in responding to complaints involving children working in construction-material production units. Brick kilns depend on labour-intensive processes, and enforcement requires coordination between revenue officials, police and labour authorities to establish working conditions and protect vulnerable workers.

Based on a complaint filed by Village Administrative Officer Muniyappan, Krishnagiri police registered a case against kiln owner Perumal and began an investigation. The report does not specify the sections of law invoked or whether any arrest has been made.
