The Centre has approved a ₹304.44-crore road connectivity project linking Andhra Pradesh’s Kopparthy Industrial Area with the Kadapa Bypass, a move expected to improve access to the industrial zone and the movement of goods in the Rayalaseema region.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the allocation on Friday. Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan subsequently thanked the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gadkari for approving the project and supporting the state’s infrastructure and industrial development.
Kalyan said the Kopparthy–Kadapa Bypass connectivity would strengthen access to the Kopparthy Industrial Area, which is a key node of the Visakhapatnam–Chennai Industrial Corridor. He said the road would make travel to the industrial area easier and support the movement of industrial goods once it opens.
The project is significant for the area because Kopparthy is being positioned within a wider industrial corridor rather than as a standalone industrial site. Better road access to a bypass can help connect industrial activity with regional routes while reducing the difficulty of moving materials and finished goods to and from the area. The announcement, however, does not specify the road’s length, construction schedule, land requirements or the agency responsible for execution.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister’s statement, the improved connectivity is expected to support investment, employment and commercial activity in Rayalaseema. These outcomes will depend on the project’s implementation, including the completion of construction and integration with existing road links around Kadapa and the Kopparthy Industrial Area.
Kalyan described Kopparthy as a key node of the Visakhapatnam–Chennai Industrial Corridor and said the new connectivity would contribute to industrial growth in the region. His statement did not provide details of the project’s tendering process, construction milestones or opening date.
The road allocation adds to the infrastructure planned to support industrial development in Andhra Pradesh. The next stages will involve translating the approved funding into project execution and establishing the timeline for construction and commissioning.
