Kolkata Weather Forecast Points to Mostly Rain-Free Durga Puja

The Kolkata weather forecast indicates that heavy rain is unlikely across the city from Monday through Saturday, while the monsoon’s withdrawal from West Bengal is expected to begin in the second week of October, according to the Alipore Meteorological Office. The update offers relief ahead of Durga Puja, although high humidity is expected to keep conditions uncomfortable.

The weather office said there is no significant possibility of rain in Kolkata on Mahalaya. The city is expected to remain partly cloudy on Sunday, with cloud cover likely to increase during the day. One or two spells of light rain accompanied by thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, but the forecast does not indicate any possibility of heavy rainfall.

Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature on the previous day was 32.6 degrees Celsius. The meteorological office said there is unlikely to be any major change in temperature over the coming days. However, increased moisture in the air is expected to raise humidity-related discomfort for residents.

The forecast is significant for the city’s public life during the run-up to the festival, when movement across neighbourhoods increases and outdoor preparations, shopping and public gatherings expand. The current prediction suggests that heavy rain is unlikely to disrupt these activities between Monday and Saturday, although short spells of light rain remain possible in the wider region.

Light rain is expected on Sunday in South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore and adjoining areas. Other districts may also receive light rain. From Monday to Saturday, the possibility of rainfall is expected to decline further, while atmospheric moisture will remain high.

North Bengal may see isolated rain at one or two places in the upper districts during the next 24 hours. The weather office has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain in those areas. Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri may receive light rain at isolated locations, but the forecast does not indicate any immediate possibility of heavy rainfall there either.

The Alipore Meteorological Office said conditions favourable for the withdrawal of the monsoon from West Bengal would gradually develop. The withdrawal process is expected to begin in the second week of October, with the latest forecast pointing to a reduction in rainfall across the state before then.
