The work, routed through the Integral Coach Factory’s Furnishing Division in Chennai, is due for completion by 30 November 2026. The contract highlights the importance of maintaining passenger-facing infrastructure as the city’s metro network expands.
The order covers both the supply and installation of interior components. While these works may appear routine, coach interiors have a direct bearing on passenger comfort, cleanliness and the long-term durability of public transport assets. Flooring in particular must withstand heavy daily footfall, while internal panels need to remain safe and serviceable under intensive operating conditions.For Kolkata, the investment comes as metro rail becomes an increasingly important part of the city’s urban mobility system. A reliable metro can reduce dependence on private vehicles and help manage congestion on already crowded road corridors.
