Kolkata Metro will run additional services on Saturdays and Sundays across the Blue, Green and Yellow lines between October 3 and October 11, offering commuters more trains during the shopping and travel rush ahead of Durga Puja. The first and last train timings will remain unchanged, according to metro authorities cited by Sanmarg.
The additional services will operate on October 3 and 10, both Saturdays. On the Blue Line, which runs between Shahid Khudiram and Dakshineswar, 20 services will be added to the normal Saturday schedule, taking the total to 272 services. The Green Line, connecting Sector V with Howrah Maidan, will add 24 services for a total of 236 trains.
The Yellow Line will also receive 28 additional services on those Saturdays. The reported service stretch on this line is between Noapara and the airport. The expanded schedules are intended to provide more capacity as residents travel for Durga Puja shopping and other essential pre-festival activities.
The weekend plan will continue on Sundays, October 4 and 11. Blue Line services will increase from 152 to 188, while Green Line services will rise from 111 to 125. The Yellow Line will operate a total of 78 services on each of the specified Sundays, according to the report.
In addition to the increased line-wise operations, Kolkata Metro will provide three direct services from the airport to Dakshineswar on the Sundays covered by the special schedule. The arrangement links two important passenger destinations across the network and is aimed at supporting movement during one of the city’s busiest annual travel periods.
The decision comes as Kolkata’s metro system prepares for higher weekend demand before the festival. Durga Puja shopping typically increases passenger movement towards commercial areas and transport interchanges, making train frequency and timetable reliability important for commuters. The metro authorities’ decision keeps the existing first- and last-train timings unchanged while increasing the number of services during the day.
The special schedule is currently limited to the four announced weekend dates: October 3, 4, 10 and 11. The additional services will run on the Blue, Green and Yellow lines, with the three airport-to-Dakshineswar direct services included in the Sunday arrangements.
