Kolkata Metro will start services earlier and run later than usual on the Blue and Green lines on Sunday to support devotees travelling to Dakshineswar and Kalighat temples for Kali Puja, while the Yellow Line timetable will remain unchanged and the Purple and Orange lines will have no services as usual.
On the Blue Line, the first train from Noapara will leave at 7.54 am and the first service from Dakshineswar will depart at 8 am. The first trains from Shahid Khudiram and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar will also start at 8 am. These services normally begin at 9 am on Sundays.
The extended schedule will also apply to selected late-night services on the Blue Line. The last train from Dakshineswar to Shahid Khudiram will leave at 10.40 pm. Services from Dakshineswar to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and from Shahid Khudiram to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar will both begin their final journeys at 11 pm.
The changes are focused on the two Metro corridors that serve key religious destinations during the festival. Dakshineswar station provides access to the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, while Kalighat is served by the Blue Line’s southern corridor. The earlier start is intended to assist passengers travelling to the temples, and the later departures will provide additional options for the return journey.
On the Green Line, the first service from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V will start at 8 am. In the opposite direction, the first train from Salt Lake Sector V to Howrah Maidan will depart at 8.02 am. The last service from both ends of the Green Line will begin at 11 pm.
There will be no change to the Yellow Line schedule on Sunday. Metro services will also remain unavailable on the Purple and Orange lines, as is usual for those corridors. The published changes therefore apply only to the Blue and Green lines, rather than representing a system-wide festival timetable.
The revised operating hours give passengers travelling on the affected routes a longer service window on Kali Puja Sunday. The schedule covers early access to the Dakshineswar and Kalighat areas and later departures from selected Blue Line stations, with the Green Line also operating between Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector V from 8 am until the final services begin at 11 pm.
