Kolkata Metro Adds Kali Puja Services on Blue and Green Lines

Kolkata Metro will run additional services on its Blue and Green lines on Sunday for Kali Puja, while also advancing the first trains and extending selected last-train timings to manage higher passenger demand across the city. The revised schedule will cover the Blue Line between Dakshineswar and Shahid Khudiram and the Green Line between Salt Lake Sector V and Howrah Maidan.

According to Kolkata Metro authorities, the Blue Line will operate 152 services in total in both directions on Sunday. The changes are intended to support passengers travelling early to Kalighat and Dakshineswar, two of Kolkata’s major Kali Puja destinations.

The first Blue Line train from Noapara to Shahid Khudiram will leave at 7.54 am. The first service from Shahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar will depart at 8 am instead of the usual 9 am. The first trains from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station, also known as Tollygunge, to Dakshineswar and from Shahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar will similarly be brought forward by one hour, with services starting at 8 am.

The last-train schedule on the Blue Line will also change. The final train from Dakshineswar to Shahid Khudiram will be available at 10.40 pm. The last service from Shahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar will leave at 11 pm, while a final train from Dakshineswar to Tollygunge will also depart at 11 pm.

The Green Line will run 123 services in both directions on Sunday. The first train from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V will leave at 8 am, and the last service will depart at 11 pm. From Salt Lake Sector V, the first train to Howrah Maidan will leave at 8.02 am, with the final service scheduled for 11 pm.

The revised operations will give passengers a wider early-morning and late-evening window on two lines that connect major residential, commercial, intermodal and visitor destinations. The Green Line links Howrah Maidan with Salt Lake Sector V, while the Blue Line serves the northern and southern parts of Kolkata through central city stations.

The Yellow Line between Noapara and Jai Hind Airport will operate 78 services in both directions on Sunday, but its first and last-train timings will remain unchanged. The first train from Noapara to Jai Hind Airport will leave at 9.18 am and the last at 9 pm. In the reverse direction, the first service will depart at 9.40 am and the last at 9.20 pm.

As on other Sundays, no services will operate on the Purple and Orange lines on Kali Puja. The Sunday schedule announced by the Metro authorities will therefore concentrate additional capacity on the Blue and Green lines, while maintaining the existing operating pattern on the Yellow Line.
