BENGALURU | September 11, 2026 — Karnataka’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has flagged name and parentage mismatches involving the family of Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and Zerodha founders Nithin and Nikhil Kamath, prompting clarification from election officials in Bengaluru and Kanakapura.
Officials said the exercise has created confusion in several cases because similar names appear in electoral records. They clarified that Shivakumar’s mother, Gowramma w/o Kempegowda, was not served a notice, despite reports that her name had been flagged during verification in the Kanakapura Assembly constituency.
According to Bengaluru South district election officials, three voters named Gowramma are listed in part number 249 of the constituency. The chief minister’s mother is listed first, at serial number one, with Electoral Photo Identity Card number ZVG4032298. Notices were issued to the other two voters with the same name.
An election officer said the confusion had arisen from similar spellings and described media reports suggesting that Gowramma had received a notice as factually incorrect. The officials did not disclose any change to her enrolment status.
Verification of the Nilekani family’s records was completed on Thursday, officials said. Notices had been generated under the no-mapping category for Nilekani and his family, who are enrolled in Koramangala under the BTM Layout Assembly constituency. Because Nilekani is classified as a VIP, a booth-level officer visited his residence to complete the verification.
Nilekani’s staff requested copies of the notices before submitting documents, including details of the family’s enrolment in the 2002 electoral rolls. The booth-level officer subsequently delivered the notices and returned to collect the documents and complete the process, officials said.
The status of the records involving Zerodha founders Nithin and Nikhil Kamath remained under clarification. Officials from the Bengaluru South City Corporation and the urban district administration contacted their mother, Revathi Kamath, who said the family had not received any notices.
Ramesh KN, additional district election officer for Bengaluru South, said officials were verifying whether notices had actually been generated in the Kamaths’ names. The three family members had been flagged over a mismatch involving their parents’ names in the Bengaluru South constituency.
The verification exercise is continuing, with election officials examining the relevant voter records and documents in the cases identified during the revision.
