Karnataka Teacher Recruitment Portal Error Blocks Ex-Servicemen Applicants

An apparent age-limit error on Karnataka’s education department recruitment portal is showing former service personnel who applied for primary and secondary school assistant teacher posts as having crossed the permissible age limit, according to affected applicants.

The candidates said the portal has not applied the age relaxation available to ex-servicemen applying under the reserved category. They said the error has left around 25 to 30 applicants uncertain about their eligibility and prospects in the recruitment process.

The applicants referred to Rule 6(3)(c) of the Karnataka Civil Services Rules, 1977, which they said provides an age relaxation equivalent to the total period of service rendered in the armed forces, along with an additional three years, for candidates applying under the ex-servicemen reservation. They alleged that an error by education department officials had prevented the benefit from being reflected in their applications.

The issue, according to the candidates, has already been brought to the attention of senior officials in the education department. They said no corrective action had been taken by the department so far, leaving the age-limit status on the recruitment login unchanged.

The applicants also said they submitted a representation to School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa when he visited Athani. According to their account, the minister acknowledged that age relaxation should be available and asked why it had not been granted. The candidates said the problem nevertheless remained unresolved after the representation.

The affected former service personnel have urged the state government to treat the matter seriously and ensure that eligible applicants are not excluded because of an administrative or technical error. Their immediate concern is that the portal’s age-limit status could affect their participation in the recruitment process for government school teaching positions.

The report does not include a formal response from the education department or details of a correction timeline. The applicants are seeking intervention from the government so that the age-relaxation provision is applied before the recruitment process advances further.
