Karnataka Rainfall Improves in Bengaluru and Kodagu, IMD Data Shows

Karnataka rainfall improved across Bengaluru, Kodagu and several other districts during October 1–27, even as large parts of northern Karnataka recorded severe shortfalls, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department and reported by Prajavani.

Kodagu recorded 211.4 mm of rain during the period, above its normal level, while nine districts received rainfall described as being within their usual range. Fourteen districts recorded a significant deficit, and seven others reported rainfall shortages.

Bengaluru Urban district received 125.8 mm of rain between October 1 and October 27. Bengaluru South recorded 127.3 mm, while neighbouring Bengaluru Rural received 105.9 mm, although the latter was classified as having a deficit. Chamarajanagar recorded 134.9 mm, Mysuru 146.9 mm and Mandya 108.1 mm during the same period.

The coastal and southern districts also reported comparatively higher rainfall. Udupi received 200.7 mm, Dakshina Kannada 259.5 mm and Hassan 126.1 mm. Tumakuru recorded 106.2 mm, while Kolar received 126.2 mm and was reported to have received rainfall within its usual range.

The data shows a sharp regional contrast across Karnataka. Dharwad recorded 52.2 mm, Uttara Kannada 67 mm, Shivamogga 82.9 mm, Chikkamagaluru 98.4 mm and Chikkaballapur 96.8 mm, with these districts reporting deficits during the period.

The shortage was more pronounced across the Kalyana Karnataka region. Bidar recorded only 0.5 mm, Kalaburagi 3.6 mm, Yadgir 3.8 mm, Raichur 4.7 mm, Koppal 12.7 mm, Ballari 22.5 mm and Vijayanagara 24.8 mm. The report classified the rainfall deficit in these districts as severe.

Kittur Karnataka also recorded low rainfall during the period. Haveri received 34.8 mm, Gadag 20.8 mm, Belagavi 20.4 mm, Bagalkot 9.2 mm and Vijayapura 2.9 mm, with severe deficits reported across the region.

The figures underline the uneven spread of the ongoing post-monsoon rainfall across the state. While Kodagu, Bengaluru and several coastal and southern districts received substantial rain, the data indicates that the northern and north-eastern districts continued to experience substantial shortages. The IMD rainfall assessment covers the period from October 1 to October 27, and the report does not provide a forecast for the remainder of the month.
