Karnataka has set a target of attracting ₹1.5 lakh crore in investment and creating 20 lakh jobs by 2030, Industries Minister M.B. Patil said at the Bengaluru Skills Summit on Tuesday. The announcement links the state’s investment ambitions to a larger push to expand skills, entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities.
Patil was speaking at the inauguration of the three-day summit organised by the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood. He also said Karnataka aims to grow into a $1 trillion economy by 2032 and that 75% of investment proposals received by the state had already materialised, according to Prajavani.
The minister said the government had introduced the Nipuna Karnataka programme specifically for skill development. The programme was presented as part of the state’s effort to connect investment attraction with the availability of trained workers, although the report did not provide details of its funding, implementation schedule or the number of people covered.
Skill Development and Livelihood Minister Dr Sharanaprakash Patil said Bengaluru should develop beyond its identity as a technology capital and become a global centre for skills and youth power. His remarks place the city at the centre of the state’s workforce strategy, as the government seeks to align its technology ecosystem with broader employment and training goals.
Home Minister Priyank Kharge said Karnataka had been developed as a centre of knowledge and skills. He also described the state as the world’s fourth-largest technology cluster and said it ranked eighth globally in the number of start-ups. The report did not specify the source, methodology or reference year for these rankings.
The summit saw the release of Karnataka Kaushal Sampada, Karnataka Talent Landscape and the Karnataka Workforce Blueprint–2030. The documents are intended to provide the institutional and workforce framework for the state’s skills agenda, but their targets, sectoral priorities and implementation mechanisms were not detailed in the report.
Around 6,500 delegates from India and abroad are participating in the three-day summit. Ministers Basavaraj Rayareddy and Rizwan Arshad, Legislative Council member Manjunath Bhandari, Skill Development Corporation chairperson Shivakanthamma Nayak, department principal secretary Subodh Yadav, entrepreneur Guruprasad Mudlapur, Rangesh Raghavan and Skill Development Authority chairperson E.V. Ramanareddy were also present.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to launch the Yuva Udyoga Sethu programme on Wednesday. The programme’s role, coverage and delivery arrangements were not specified in the available report. Its launch is expected to be the next announced step in Karnataka’s effort to connect young people with the state’s investment and workforce plans.
