Karnataka Invites Investment in Renewable Energy and Storage

Karnataka has invited investors, start-ups and industry leaders to explore opportunities across its renewable energy sector, Energy Minister K.J. George said at a roadshow in Bengaluru for the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026.

George said the state was open to investment and partnerships in solar and wind power, hybrid projects, rooftop solar, electric mobility, renewable energy equipment manufacturing and battery-based energy storage systems. He described Karnataka as an emerging destination for renewable energy investment and innovation.

“By 2030, Karnataka will join the national effort to achieve the target of 500 gigawatts of renewable power generation capacity,” George said, according to the statement reported by Prajavani. He added that the state already had more than 8.5 gigawatts of installed wind power capacity.

The minister cited the Pavagada Solar Park as an example of Karnataka’s approach to large-scale renewable energy development. He described the project as a globally recognised model and credited the state’s leadership and administrative support for enabling its development.

George also identified solar-wind hybrid projects, rooftop solar systems, electric transport, renewable energy equipment manufacturing, battery storage and integrated renewable energy solutions as areas with “immense opportunities”. He said the roadshow would help present Karnataka’s capabilities and investment prospects to a wider audience.

The minister said the state wanted to strengthen collaboration among industry, academic institutions and start-ups to accelerate the renewable energy transition. The Energy Department’s Additional Chief Secretary, Gaurav Gupta, said the sector’s growth was translating into manufacturing, investment and employment opportunities.

Gupta said Bengaluru had become an important centre for start-up-led manufacturing activity. He added that Karnataka’s renewable energy strategy was focused not only on increasing generation capacity, but also on renewable-energy-led growth, manufacturing and job creation.

Santosh Kumar Sarangi, secretary in the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, said India had established a clearer pathway for investors seeking to participate in the green energy transition. He attributed the investment foundation to the country’s policy framework.

The Bengaluru roadshow was held ahead of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026, which is scheduled to take place from November 2 to 5 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The event is being organised by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy as a continuation of the 2024 RE-Invest event held in Gujarat.

The summit will be held alongside the ninth assembly of the International Solar Alliance and the fourth international conference on green hydrogen. Officials said global leaders, policymakers, industry representatives, investors and start-ups are expected to participate. The roadshow was also attended by representatives of the renewable energy ministry, the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited, the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Karnataka energy transition committee and Hitachi Energy.
