Karnataka government school teachers, government first-grade college lecturers and non-teaching staff have been given until September 30 to record their institutions’ geo-coordinates for attendance through the state’s mobile-based system, according to separate circulars issued by the School Education and Higher Education departments.
The departments have warned that failure to complete the geo-tagging within the deadline could affect salary payments. The requirement is part of the state’s decision to make attendance recording through the ‘Karya–KAMS’ system mandatory for all government employees from the current year.
The geo-tagging process requires employees at government schools, government first-grade colleges and offices to record the location coordinates of their institutions through a mobile application. The reported purpose of the process is to link attendance entries to the designated workplace through location-based verification.
The separate departmental circulars state that several teachers, lecturers and non-teaching employees have not yet recorded the geo-coordinates of their colleges, schools or offices through the mobile application. The September 30 deadline applies to the pending geo-tagging process, as the departments seek to complete the location-registration requirement for the attendance system.
Attendance is being recorded through an artificial intelligence-based mobile application under the Karya–KAMS platform. The move brings attendance administration for government employees into a digital system that uses mobile access and location data rather than relying only on conventional institutional records.
However, employees have reported difficulties in using the system. Technical problems and network connectivity issues are affecting the recording of attendance, according to the report. The concerns indicate that completion of a location-based attendance system depends not only on departmental instructions but also on reliable access to the mobile application and network services at schools, colleges and offices.
The salary warning adds an administrative consequence to the deadline. The departments have said that employees who do not complete the required geo-tagging within the prescribed period could face an impact on salary payments.
