Jammu-Bound Train’s Locomotive Detaches from Coaches in Punjab

In a critical incident on Sunday, the locomotive of a train bound for Jammu detached from its coaches in Sirhind, Punjab, prompting officials to investigate the cause.

The detachment occurred shortly after the train departed from Sirhind railway station, with the locomotive traveling approximately three kilometres without its coaches, according to officials familiar with the matter. The incident was brought to light by keymen working on the Delhi-Katra railway route, who alerted the locomotive’s driver. Initial assessments suggest that the detachment occurred due to loose coupling between the locomotive and the coaches, officials reported.

Following the discovery of the detached locomotive, necessary actions were taken to rectify the situation. The locomotive was promptly returned to the coaches, and the train resumed its journey towards Jammu without further delay. Naveen Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager of Northern Railway, emphasised the significance of investigating the incident to determine the root cause and prevent similar occurrences in the future. Railway authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to identify any underlying issues and implement corrective measures as necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of train operations along the route.
