Jaipur: After a decade-long hiatus, Terminal 1 of Jaipur International Airport is poised to recommence operations, with international flight services set to commence in October this year.
This announcement marks a significant milestone for the airport, which has undergone extensive renovations over the past years to meet international aviation standards. An airport official confirmed that preparations are underway to facilitate the smooth transition of operations to Terminal 1, with current focus on hosting Hajj flights, scheduled between July 4-11. The terminal has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including upgraded X-ray machines, baggage handling systems, and conveyor belts, ensuring efficient passenger processing and enhanced security measures. To accommodate the anticipated influx of international passengers, Terminal 1 boasts a newly developed car parking area with a capacity exceeding 200 vehicles. Administrative and security offices will be housed on the first floor, while passenger movement will primarily occur on the ground floor.
In its initial phase, Terminal 1 will cater primarily to international flights, along with non-scheduled flight movements. The terminal will be fortified with a robust security presence, with approximately 70 CISF personnel assigned to safeguard passenger and aircraft security. The revamped two-storey building features dedicated facilities for customs and immigration departments, including multiple counters for seamless immigration processing. Additionally, the departure area is equipped with check-in counters for various airlines and boarding gates to streamline passenger boarding procedures.
Terminal 1’s revival marks the culmination of extensive renovation efforts undertaken by the Airports Authority of India, following its closure in 2012. Despite facing delays attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic, Terminal 1 is now poised to resume operations, heralding a new era of international connectivity for Jaipur International Airport.
