Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) undertook a significant demolition drive on New Sanganer Road, resulting in the removal of 230 structures spanning a 2.5km stretch from Rajat Path to Mangal Farm. This enforcement action, aimed at reclaiming public space and ensuring urban planning compliance, targeted a variety of illegal constructions, including shops, houses, commercial establishments, and restaurants.
According to official reports, the demolished structures comprised 160 shops or houses, three marriage gardens, 40 warehouses or commercial units, 12 restaurants or dhabas, and 15 vacant boundary walls, in addition to several hoardings and signboards. The operation was executed by JDA’s enforcement squad, adhering to a directive from the judiciary following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) demanding action against encroachments.
“The drive, which commenced on Thursday, will continue with further action planned from Mangal Farm to Sanganer culvert,” stated an official JDA spokesperson. The public has been advised to seek alternative routes during the proceedings scheduled between 9am and 2pm on Friday to facilitate uninterrupted demolition activities.
Post-clearance of encroachments, JDA officials intend to focus on infrastructure reinforcement along critical segments of New Sanganer Road, including the stretches between Mansarovar Metro Station and RIICO Flyover, and from Vande Mataram Marg to Heera Path. Previous encroachment removal efforts in these areas have aimed at improving traffic flow and urban aesthetics.
The judicial intervention on March 19, as initiated by a division bench comprising Justice Pankaj Bhandari and Shubha Mehta, underscored the urgency of reclaiming public spaces and ensuring adherence to urban planning norms. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance civic governance and maintain urban order amidst rapid urbanization in Jaipur.
Moving forward, JDA’s strategy includes continuous monitoring and enforcement to prevent re-encroachment, emphasizing sustainable urban development practices and regulatory compliance to foster a conducive environment for residents and businesses alike in Jaipur.
