Indore Rainwater Harvesting Violations Trigger Fines Across City

The Indore Municipal Corporation has fined several commercial establishments for missing rainwater harvesting systems, fire safety violations and illegal boring during inspections carried out across multiple zones, according to an official release. The enforcement action covered establishments in Zones 9, 10, 17 and 18, with fines and challans totalling at least Rs 75,000 in the cases detailed by the corporation.

In Zone 17, Ward 18, civic officials inspected establishments in Sector-E for compliance with rainwater harvesting and fire safety requirements. The inspections were conducted on the directions of zonal officer Narendra Kureel. Arman Food Tech Private Limited and Malik Scrap were each fined Rs 5,000, while Rudraksh Industry was fined Rs 2,000 and Palkesh Waste Paper Supplier Rs 3,000.

Rahul Trade received a Rs 10,000 fine and Shikha Enterprises was fined Rs 5,000. The challans issued in the zone totalled Rs 30,000. The enforcement action placed both water-management infrastructure and prescribed safety norms under the same inspection exercise, bringing commercial compliance obligations into focus at the establishment level.

In Zone 10, Ward 40, a person was issued a Rs 20,000 challan for illegal boring in the Baba Ki Bagh area. The corporation’s action links groundwater extraction to its wider compliance drive, although the official release did not provide details on the nature of the boring work or the action required from the person concerned.

A separate inspection in Zone 9, Ward 45, found that the Yamaha showroom on LIG Main Road did not have a rainwater harvesting system. Sub-engineer Wasim Khan and building inspector Zeeshan Chishti conducted the inspection. The showroom was fined Rs 5,000 and directed to install the system immediately.

Another Rs 5,000 challan was issued in Abhinav Nagar, Zone 18, Ward 64, for violations. The corporation did not identify the establishment or specify the exact nature of the violation in the release.

Rainwater harvesting systems are part of the compliance requirements being checked by the municipal corporation in commercial premises. In the cases listed, the inspections were not limited to one neighbourhood or one type of business, covering industrial, trading, waste-paper, food-related and showroom establishments. The spread of inspections across zones indicates that the civic body is using field-level checks to identify buildings that have not installed required systems or are not following safety norms.

The action also shows how municipal enforcement can combine several urban concerns in a single inspection programme. Missing harvesting systems affect how buildings manage rainwater, while illegal boring concerns groundwater extraction and fire-safety lapses relate to risks within commercial premises. The official release, however, did not state how many establishments were inspected overall, the number of buildings found compliant, or whether the fines would be followed by repeat inspections.

The inspection teams included sub-engineers Siddhant Mehta and Palash Pandit, chief sanitary inspector Devendra Singh, the HMS team and other officials. The Indore Municipal Corporation said action against non-compliant buildings and establishments would continue across the city.
