The first phase of 480 Indiramma houses sanctioned at Pocharam in Telangana’s Ghatkesar mandal will be completed and handed over to beneficiaries by the next Dasara, IT and Industries Minister and Ranga Reddy district in-charge minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said at the foundation-laying ceremony on Wednesday.
The minister said the government would also provide roads, drinking water facilities and lifts for the Indiramma Towers within the stipulated deadline. The assurance places the housing project within a broader delivery framework in which access infrastructure is to be developed alongside the homes.
Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, local MP Eatala Rajender, Medchal MLA Mallareddy and MLC Patnam Mahender Reddy attended the programme. The ceremony marked the start of construction for houses allocated to 480 beneficiaries in Pocharam, an area in the rapidly urbanising Ghatkesar region.
Sridhar Babu said delays in house construction witnessed during the previous government would not be repeated. He said the present government was committed to ensuring that poor families received permanent homes within the announced timeframe. The minister also said houses were being constructed within the respective constituencies of eligible beneficiaries, allowing homeless families to secure homes in their own areas.
According to the minister, beneficiary selection for the programme is being carried out through a lottery system. He said the process was intended to eliminate human intervention and ensure transparency in the allocation of houses. The source report did not provide details of the lottery schedule, construction agency, project cost or the monitoring mechanism for the Pocharam development.
Sridhar Babu said the houses were being built on land of considerable value and cited property prices in Pocharam while describing the benefit to beneficiaries. He said a single-bedroom flat in the area could cost around ₹40 lakh, while eligible beneficiaries would receive homes of considerable value after contributing ₹6 lakh. The report did not specify the size, design, tenure conditions or payment schedule for the houses.
The minister said the state government’s first phase of the Indiramma housing programme had a target of 25 lakh houses across Telangana. He reiterated that every eligible homeless family would receive a house in phases. The announcement at Pocharam now sets a specific completion milestone for the 480 sanctioned homes, with roads, drinking water facilities and lifts included in the promised delivery package.
