India-Russia Summit Boosts Cooperation in Transport and Aviation Security

India and Russia have affirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly focusing on enhancing logistics connectivity and bolstering civil aviation security.

Following the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin agreed on a series of strategic initiatives aimed at fortifying ties in transport, energy, and strategic sectors. A joint statement issued after the summit underscored their shared vision to expand logistics links, highlighting projects such as the Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor and the International North-South Transport Corridor. Both nations are poised to leverage the potential of the Northern Sea Route, reflecting a concerted effort to build stable and efficient transport corridors across Eurasia.

The summit outcomes include plans to intensify the use of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) to streamline cargo transportation, reducing time and costs significantly. This initiative is expected to promote connectivity within the Eurasian space, underlining the strategic importance of transport corridors in fostering regional economic integration. Civil aviation security emerged as another critical area of collaboration, with agreements to enhance cooperation in this domain.

The establishment of a joint working body within the IRIGC-TEC for cooperation within the Northern Sea Route further underscores their joint commitment to expanding shipping between Russia and India. The summit also reaffirmed the robust cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, emphasizing the significance of bilateral trade in energy resources. Discussions included exploring new long-term contracts and enhancing collaboration in coal and other energy sources, vital for sustaining their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.

Both sides welcomed the signing of cooperative frameworks for trade, economic, and investment spheres in the Russian Far East and the Arctic zone. These agreements are expected to pave the way for increased cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, energy, mining, and maritime transport.
