Enhanced Amenities for Loco Pilots in NFR

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has made significant strides in enhancing the welfare of its Loco Pilots and Assistant Loco Pilots, with the introduction of world-class facilities in their running rooms. The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR announced that there are now 42 running rooms equipped with modern amenities, designed to ensure the physical and mental well-being of these key staff members, who play a crucial role in the safe and efficient operation of trains.

These upgraded running rooms feature spacious, double-bed soundproof rooms with attached toilets, providing a quiet and restful environment. To further support relaxation and mental well-being, meditation rooms have been established, allowing staff to meditate and practice yoga. Additionally, there are reading rooms, dining halls, and separate kitchens for vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals, ensuring that dietary preferences are respected and catered to. To address the physical well-being of the staff, the running rooms are equipped with RO purified drinking water, solar hot water systems, and modern gymnasiums with equipment such as whole body and foot massagers, treadmills, and automatic cycles. The provision of washed linen, laundry, and ironing services further enhances the comfort of the staff, making these facilities a home away from home.

These facilities are integral to ensuring that Loco Pilots and Assistant Loco Pilots receive adequate rest and nutrition, which is vital for maintaining alertness and ensuring the safety and punctuality of train operations. NFR officials emphasise that these staff members often work late hours and through the night to guarantee the timely transportation of passengers and essential goods, which are crucial for the economy. Therefore, providing them with proper rest and food is essential to their performance and the overall safety of train operations. Moreover, NFR authorities maintain regular interactions with the family members of Loco Pilots and Assistant Loco Pilots to ensure that they understand the importance and demands of their job. This engagement helps in fostering a supportive environment for the staff, both at work and at home.

NFR also ensures compliance with regulations regarding rest periods for Loco Pilots and Assistant Loco Pilots, further emphasising its commitment to their well-being. By providing these enhanced facilities and ensuring regulatory compliance, the NFR aims to support its staff in delivering safe, efficient, and reliable train services. This initiative reflects NFR’s dedication to not only improving the working conditions of its staff but also enhancing the overall safety and efficiency of its train operations, setting a new standard for railway staff welfare in India.
