India and Pakistan Agree to Full Ceasefire

New Delhi has confirmed a ceasefire agreement with Islamabad following intense US-mediated talks, marking a potential pause in the rapidly escalating military tensions along the India–Pakistan border.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Saturday evening acknowledged that India had agreed to the ceasefire after being approached by Pakistan. The announcement came shortly after US President Donald Trump declared a breakthrough. Trump, posting on his social media platform Truth Social, said, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.” Shortly after the statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar echoed the sentiment, stating, “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

An official briefing by India’s Ministry of External Affairs is scheduled for 6 pm today to provide further clarity. The ceasefire announcement comes against the backdrop of severe border hostilities. On Friday night and Saturday morning, Pakistan launched multiple drone and artillery attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in civilian and military casualties. Among the five people killed was Rajouri’s Additional District Commissioner, Raj Kumar Thappa. India retaliated swiftly to a Pakistan Air Force raid over Srinagar early Saturday. Meanwhile, explosions were reported across key locations including the Srinagar airport area, Jammu, Baramulla, Pathankot, Ferozepur, and Barmer—causing panic and blackouts in several towns.

Earlier in the day, an unidentified object crashed into Srinagar’s Dal Lake, triggering blasts that reverberated across the Valley. The sudden ceasefire marks a dramatic shift after 48 hours of intense hostilities. While details of the agreement remain under wraps, the development offers a temporary diplomatic reprieve in an otherwise volatile situation.
