The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive warning for Kerala, forecasting heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions from June 4th to June 7th. A yellow alert has been issued for various districts across the state, including Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, and more.
The IMD’s warning comes in response to the advancement of the monsoon into several parts of the central Arabian Sea, coupled with the presence of a cyclonic circulation in the vicinity of south Kerala and its neighboring regions. While some previously identified cyclonic circulations have weakened, the overall weather pattern indicates a likelihood of increased rainfall activity across Kerala in the coming week.
Specifically, IMD has highlighted the possibility of squally weather conditions along Kerala’s coast, with rough seas near the shore due to high period swell waves. Current speeds are anticipated to range from 35 to 60 cm/sec, posing potential risks to maritime activities in the region. Recent rainfall data indicates substantial precipitation in various parts of the state, with lower Sholayar, Athirappilly, Thodupuzha, and others receiving significant amounts of rainfall. IMD has also issued warnings of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated locations until June 7th.
