The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of India on Thursday, with isolated very heavy rain expected in Odisha and heavy showers likely in states including Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Kerala and Uttarakhand. The forecast also includes thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of the east, south and Northeast.
The warning comes as rainfall activity is expected to remain active across several regions through the weekend. Odisha is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places on Thursday, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also possible. Jharkhand and Bihar may see heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds, with rainfall expected to remain active in Jharkhand over the coming days.
In northern India, Uttarakhand is likely to receive heavy rainfall on Thursday, with widespread rain forecast to continue through the weekend. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also possible in the state. Himachal Pradesh may see rainfall as well, with more widespread activity expected later in the week.
The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall across Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh through the weekend. Thunderstorms are possible in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. The department has also forecast widespread rainfall over Himachal Pradesh from Friday and west Madhya Pradesh from Saturday, while heavy rain is likely to continue in Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand.
The Northeast remains under a broad rain alert. Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy rain on Thursday, while Arunachal Pradesh may see thunderstorms and lightning. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also likely to receive heavy rain, with thunderstorms and lightning possible. Rainfall activity is expected to remain widespread across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya through the weekend.
In the west, Konkan and Goa are likely to continue receiving widespread rainfall in the coming days. Gujarat may also see rain, with heavy showers expected in parts of the region later in the week.
Kerala is likely to receive heavy rain on Thursday, with widespread rainfall expected to continue through the weekend. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are possible over Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Parts of Karnataka and Telangana may also experience thunderstorms and lightning.
The forecast places multiple regions under overlapping rain and thunderstorm alerts, requiring attention to weather-related disruptions, lightning risks and local travel conditions.
