Hyderabad’s Financial District Gets New Dr. Manmohan Singh Circle

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation has approved the renaming of Wipro Circle in Hyderabad’s Financial District as Dr. Manmohan Singh Circle, along with the renaming of an adjoining 2.97-acre park as Dr. Manmohan Singh Memorial Park.

The decisions were taken at the corporation’s 8th Ordinary Meeting held on October 5. The proposal to rename the existing junction was approved under Section 137 of the Core Urban Region (Integrated Governance) Act, 2026.

The memorial park was developed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority. A statue of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was recently unveiled at the park by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The new naming decision follows the earlier naming of the Aramghar-Zoo Park flyover after Singh.

The naming proposals were among several civic and infrastructure items approved by the corporation. The CMC approved a proposal to constitute a Special Purpose Vehicle, the Durgam Cheruvu Lakefront Development Company, for the integrated development and rejuvenation of the Durgam Cheruvu lakefront. Around 140 acres across the lake have been identified for the proposed development, which will be recommended to the government.

The civic body also approved a ₹5.95 crore Strategic Nala Development Programme project to construct the remaining stretch of a box drain from Trendz Junior to Vashinavi Pride Apartment. The new stretch will connect with the existing box drain forming part of the Gaffor Nagar junction to Durgam Cheruvu entry plaza project.

Other approved works include a ₹5.18 crore office building for the CMC at Gajularamaram, beside Oxygen Park on Lalsabguda Road, and a ₹2.95 crore model road from the Hindu-Muslim Graveyard to the Allwyn Colony Circle Border in Allwyn Colony.

The corporation also approved a ₹21.59 crore rejuvenation and development project for Chintal Kunta Lake. The work includes desilting, embankment protection, water quality restoration and construction of a box drain to Narlakunta Lake through Shuraksha Meadows Colony in Bahadurpally.

Under additional items taken up with the permission of the Chair, the CMC approved a box cricket sports arena near PJR Flyover at Gachibowli Junction under corporate social responsibility support from Arcesium India Private Limited. The proposal also includes directional signage near the flyover and branding signages at the arena carrying the CSR logo.

A proposal to lay a bituminous road from Bandamkommu to Lalabai Colony in Ameenpur Municipality was also approved. The project, covering areas of the erstwhile Ameenpur and Bollaram municipalities that were merged into the CMC, is to be taken up with TUFIDC loan assistance. It has been estimated in two parts at more than ₹5 crore, subject to fund availability and compliance with applicable rules, regulations and financial procedures.
