The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has fined a Jubilee Hills resident ₹5,000 for using drinking water to clean premises, signalling stricter enforcement against wastage across the city. The action followed a complaint from local residents and a field investigation by Water Board officials.
Residents reported through the Water Board’s WhatsApp number that drinking water was being used to clean a property at Road No. 57, Plot No. 1152, within the Jubilee Hills Circle and Jubilee Hills Ward limits. Officials inspected the location after receiving the complaint and confirmed the misuse before imposing the fine on the concerned resident.
The case outlines the enforcement process being followed by HMWS&SB: complaints are received from the public, officials conduct a field-level inquiry, violations are confirmed and action is taken under applicable regulations. The Board said it was reviewing complaints about the misuse of drinking water and would not overlook confirmed violations.
HMWS&SB has advised residents to use drinking water sparingly and only for drinking and household needs. It warned that using potable water to clean house premises or roads would invite action under the regulations. The Board’s direction places household-level water use within the scope of its conservation and enforcement measures.
The complaint system relies on residents providing information about suspected wastage. HMWS&SB has asked members of the public to send relevant photographs or videos, details of the individual or organisation involved, the location of the incident and the full address to its WhatsApp number, 99499 30003. Complaints can also be registered through the customer care number 155313.
The Water Board said every complaint received from the public would be reviewed and, where necessary, followed by a field investigation. It also said action would be taken according to regulations if a violation was confirmed. The Board has assured complainants that the details of people providing information would be kept confidential.
The Jubilee Hills fine marks a completed enforcement action from complaint to inspection and penalty. HMWS&SB has appealed to Hyderabad residents to report drinking-water wastage and assist the Board in preventing the misuse of potable water.
