Hyderabad water supply will be disrupted across several parts of the city for 36 hours from October 5 to October 6 as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) carries out repair and replacement works on the MS pumping main of the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project Phase-II.
According to an HMWSSB press release reported by Telangana Today, the work will begin at 6 am on October 5 and continue until 6 pm on October 6. Residents in the affected areas may face a complete or partial suspension of supply, while some locations may receive water at low pressure during the maintenance period.
The planned works include replacing damaged mild steel air tees and valves and repairing a leak in the scour pipeline. The pumping main forms part of the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project Phase-II, which supplies water to Hyderabad.
The affected areas include Adibatla, Kammaguda, Gurramguda, BN Reddy Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Autonagar, Alkapuri, Beerappagadda, Habsiguda, Ramanthapur, Venkat Reddy Nagar, Uppal, Nacharam, HMT Nagar, Tarnaka and Buddha Nagar.
Several other locations are also included in the HMWSSB alert. These are Lalapet, partly affected; Hasmathpet; Prakash Nagar; Mekalamandi; Bholakpur, partly affected; Padmarao Nagar; Begumpet; South Central Railway; MES; Secunderabad Cantonment; Lalaguda; Addagutta; Pattigutta; Nallagutta; Gautam Nagar; Ferozguda; Bansilalpet; Ramgopalpet; Sitaphalmandi; Mettuguda; Vaishali Nagar; Meerpet; Badangpet; ARCI; Balapur; Maisaram; Barkas; NPA; Shamshabad; Madhuban; and Prashasan Nagar, partly affected.
The notice covers a wide mix of residential neighbourhoods, industrial and institutional areas, transport-linked locations and defence or government establishments. The HMWSSB has advised consumers in the listed areas to take account of the scheduled interruption and possible low pressure while the work is under way.
The disruption is linked to maintenance of the water-supply system rather than a reported failure caused by an external incident. The repair programme is intended to address damaged components on the pumping main and a leak in the associated scour pipeline. The board’s stated work window ends at 6 pm on October 6.
