Hyderabad Water Supply Disruption Planned Wednesday
HYDERABAD: Drinking water supply will be temporarily affected across several neighbourhoods in Hyderabad on Wednesday as authorities undertake scheduled electrical maintenance linked to the city’s Manjira water supply system. The planned interruption reflects the critical role of preventive infrastructure maintenance in ensuring the long-term reliability of urban water services for the rapidly growing metropolitan region.
The Hyderabad water supply disruption is expected to occur between 10 am and 4 pm on August 5 while engineers carry out installation and maintenance work on a 33 kV outdoor Vacuum Circuit Breaker (VCB) at the Kalabgur electrical substation. The equipment supports the power infrastructure associated with the Manjira drinking water project, making the maintenance essential for uninterrupted future operations. According to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the scheduled work may result in partial or complete interruption of water supply in several residential, industrial and commercial localities during the six-hour maintenance window. Neighbourhoods expected to experience disruptions include Ramachandrapuram, Ashok Nagar, Jyothi Nagar, Lingampally, Chandanagar, Hafeezpet, Madinaguda, Miyapur, Beeramguda, Ameenpur, Bhagyanagar Colony and BHEL Township. Industrial consumers receiving bulk drinking water connections from the network may also experience temporary interruptions until the maintenance work is completed.
Water utility officials have advised residents, businesses and institutions in the affected areas to store adequate drinking water in advance and use available supplies carefully throughout the shutdown period. Normal distribution is expected to resume immediately after the maintenance activity is successfully completed. Urban infrastructure experts note that planned maintenance is an essential component of modern water management systems.
