Hyderabad: Telangana’s southern power distribution utility has launched a statewide operational review aimed at accelerating pending electricity infrastructure works, strengthening grid reliability and improving consumer services. The initiative comes as the state faces rising electricity demand and increased pressure on distribution networks during the monsoon season.
Senior utility officials have instructed field teams across operational circles to prioritise uninterrupted electricity supply while ensuring quicker resolution of consumer complaints and improved accountability at the local level. The review covers multiple areas, including electricity connections, revenue management, network upgrades, safety measures and renewable energy integration. A key focus of the drive is the completion of pending power connections for public institutions and consumers. Officials have been directed to expedite electricity access for Anganwadi centres, along with pending agricultural and commercial service applications, recognising reliable electricity as a critical component of public service delivery and economic activity. The Telangana power infrastructure review also places emphasis on strengthening distribution networks ahead of seasonal weather-related disruptions. Utility teams have been instructed to intensify feeder inspections, undertake preventive transformer maintenance, trim tree branches near power lines and identify vulnerable assets that could affect electricity supply during heavy rainfall and storms.
Energy experts note that preventive maintenance has become increasingly important as climate variability places greater pressure on electricity systems.
