Hyderabad Traffic Restrictions Begin Around Hussain Sagar for Durga Immersions

Hyderabad traffic restrictions around Hussain Sagar will be in force from 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, until 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, as the city prepares for Durga idol immersions at People’s Plaza, Garden Point and the baby ponds at Jalavihar and Sanjeevaiah Park.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police said diversions and road regulations would be implemented on a need basis, depending on traffic conditions and the movement of idol processions, rather than through continuous closure of every identified road. Motorists travelling through central Hyderabad have been advised to avoid key junctions and plan alternative routes, particularly during peak traffic hours.

According to an advisory issued by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, several roads linking Khairatabad, the Secretariat, Tank Bund and Necklace Road will be regulated during the immersion period. Certain stretches will be reserved for vehicles carrying Durga idols.

Vehicles travelling from Panjagutta and Raj Bhavan Road towards the Khairatabad flyover will be diverted at VV Statue towards Nirankari Junction. Only vehicles carrying Durga idols will be allowed to continue on the restricted route. Traffic approaching Iqbal Minar from Nirankari Junction will be diverted at the Old Saifabad Police Station towards Ravindra Bharathi and Masab Tank.

Vehicles travelling from Iqbal Minar towards Secretariat Junction will be redirected onto the Telangana Talli Flyover towards Lower Tank Bund. Traffic emerging from the Khairatabad Bada Ganesh lane and Mint Compound will not be permitted towards Necklace Rotary and will instead be diverted at Printing Press Junction towards Mint Compound or Rajiv Gandhi Statue.

Motorists travelling from Upper Tank Bund towards Secretariat Junction will be diverted at the Old Ambedkar Statue towards Liberty. Vehicles approaching Secretariat Junction from Liberty will be redirected at the same junction towards Upper Tank Bund. The Old Ambedkar Statue, Secretariat Junction, NTR Marg and Necklace Road stretch will be restricted to vehicles carrying Durga idols.

Further diversions will affect traffic between Upper Tank Bund, Nallagutta Bridge and PV Marg, also known as Necklace Road. Vehicles travelling in that direction will be diverted at Sonabi Abdullah Masjid towards Minister Road via Karbala and Ranigunj. Traffic approaching Necklace Road from Ranigunj and Minister Road will be diverted at Nallagutta crossroads towards Minister Road or Ranigunj.

The Traffic Police has identified 11 junctions where congestion is expected: VV Statue, Old Saifabad Police Station, Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad Traffic Police Junction, AR Petrol Pump, BJR Statue Circle, Basheerbagh, Liberty, Old Ambedkar Statue, Upper Tank Bund and Nallagutta crossroads.

Commuters can follow the Hyderabad Traffic Police’s official Facebook and X accounts, including @HYDTP, for live updates during the restriction period. People requiring emergency travel assistance can contact the traffic helpline at 9010203626.
