Hyderabad Telangana Skill Centre Strengthens Construction Workforce
Hyderabad: Telangana has approved the establishment of a new construction skills training centre in Manthani, marking another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen workforce development for the infrastructure and built environment sectors. The government has sanctioned ₹20 crore for developing the facility, which is expected to support industry-ready training and improve employment opportunities for young people across northern Telangana.
The proposed Skill Development Centre will be developed under the National Academy of Construction (NAC) and is intended to equip trainees with practical skills aligned with evolving construction technologies and modern building practices. Officials believe the initiative will help bridge the gap between industry demand and the availability of trained workers as infrastructure investment continues to expand across the state. Construction remains one of India’s largest employment-generating sectors, yet developers frequently report shortages of skilled workers in specialised trades. Urban economists note that strengthening vocational education can improve productivity, enhance construction quality and support timely delivery of housing and infrastructure projects. Well-trained workers are also better positioned to adopt sustainable construction methods and emerging digital technologies transforming the built environment. The Skill Development Centre is expected to offer both short-term and long-term training programmes covering multiple construction disciplines. The curriculum will focus on practical learning and industry requirements, enabling participants to pursue wage employment, entrepreneurship and specialised technical careers within India’s expanding infrastructure sector as well as overseas markets.
Policy experts say regional training institutions can play a vital role in promoting inclusive economic growth by creating employment opportunities closer to smaller towns and semi-urban areas. Establishing advanced skill centres beyond major metropolitan regions also helps distribute economic opportunities more evenly while reducing migration pressures on large cities. Officials expect the Manthani facility to serve as a training hub for districts across North Telangana, supporting workforce requirements arising from public infrastructure, urban development and private real estate projects. By creating a pipeline of certified professionals, the centre could contribute to improved labour standards and higher-quality project execution.
