Hyderabad police will deploy around 2,200 personnel and supporting security staff at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal for the India-West Indies T20 International on October 14, with traffic diversions planned across key junctions for an expected crowd of 40,000 spectators.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate has identified parking capacity for about 8,000 vehicles, including 4,600 four-wheelers and 3,400 two-wheelers, while advising visitors to plan their journeys and use public transport wherever possible.
Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi said the deployment would include five Deputy Commissioners of Police, five Additional DCPs, 15 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 50 Inspectors and 90 Sub-Inspectors. Personnel from the traffic and intelligence wings, Special Operations Teams, bomb detection squads and SHE Teams will also be deployed.
Ten Armed Reserve platoons and 10 Telangana Special Police platoons will support the arrangements. Four plainclothes police teams will monitor activities inside the stadium, while an Assistant Commissioner of Police-rank officer will supervise security around the players’ dugout and other restricted areas, Ms. Sumathi said.
Heavy vehicles will be diverted at Nagole U-Turn near Pillar No. 814, Mehfil Junction, Habsiguda Junction and Street No. 8 in Ramanthapur. At Nagole U-Turn, vehicles will be redirected through Bhagayath, Nallacheruvukatta, Chengicherla, Mallapur and Nacharam towards Habsiguda and Tarnaka.
At Habsiguda Junction, heavy vehicles travelling towards Ghatkesar will be diverted through Nacharam, Mallapur, Cherlapally and Chengicherla. Those heading towards LB Nagar will be directed through Bhagayath. Similar diversions will be enforced at Ramanthapur and Mehfil Junction, while motorists travelling towards Moosarambagh, Dilsukhnagar and LB Nagar have been advised to follow directions from traffic personnel.
Traffic police will also regulate the movement of players and team officials travelling from Banjara Hills to Uppal through Panjagutta, Begumpet, Tarnaka and Habsiguda. Police said traffic movement at Nagole Metro U-Turn, Habsiguda Junction, Mehfil Junction and Street No. 8 in Ramanthapur could be temporarily regulated or stopped during emergencies to allow ambulances, fire tenders and other emergency vehicles to pass.
The stadium and surrounding areas will be monitored through 408 CCTV cameras connected to a control room. Two drones will be used for aerial surveillance, crowd monitoring and traffic management. Police will also monitor Instagram, Facebook and other social media platforms to identify fake ticket sellers, fraudulent booking links and websites targeting cricket fans.
Spectators have been advised to purchase tickets only through authorised sources and avoid suspicious online links. The police said route maps and QR codes containing parking and stadium-access information would be shared through official social media accounts.
Five SHE Teams will be stationed at strategic locations to prevent harassment of women spectators. Special teams will also monitor suspected drug-related activity around the venue.
With a large crowd expected to leave after the match, police have written to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation and Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities seeking additional services and extended operating hours. The requests remain subject to operational feasibility, and spectators have been advised to follow official announcements before planning their return journeys.
Telecommunication service providers have also been requested to increase network capacity around the stadium to manage heavier mobile usage during the match.
