HYDERABAD: Hyderabad is experiencing a significant Hyderabad monsoon rainfall deficit, with rainfall remaining well below seasonal averages despite scattered showers across the city over the weekend. While reduced rainfall presents challenges, experts caution that isolated heavy downpours later in the season could still lead to urban flooding if drainage systems are unable to cope with sudden runoff. This dual risk of drought-like conditions followed by extreme rainfall highlights the importance of climate-resilient urban planning, improved stormwater infrastructure and integrated water management. Meteorologists will continue monitoring the progress of the southwest monsoon over the coming weeks, as rainfall during the remaining season will be critical for improving reservoir storage and replenishing groundwater reserves. Seasonal recovery remains possible if widespread and consistent rainfall develops across Telangana.
