HYDERABAD: The redeveloped Hi-Tech City railway station is set to be inaugurated on July 17, marking another milestone in Hyderabad’s expanding suburban rail infrastructure. The modernisation of the station is expected to improve passenger movement, accessibility and commuter experience while supporting the city’s growing dependence on public transport across its western technology corridor.
Completed at an estimated cost of ₹26 crore, the upgraded station has been redesigned with enhanced passenger amenities and improved circulation to accommodate increasing commuter volumes. The project forms part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, under which railway stations across the country are being modernised to deliver safer, more accessible and commuter-friendly transport infrastructure. The station now features a wider foot overbridge, additional lifts and escalators, upgraded passenger information systems, improved platform shelters, waiting facilities and barrier-free access for people with disabilities. Urban mobility experts note that such improvements are essential as Hyderabad continues to witness rising demand for suburban rail services driven by rapid residential and commercial expansion. Located on the Lingampalli–Secunderabad corridor, the Hi-Tech City railway station serves one of the city’s busiest employment districts. MMTS services operating through the station connect key destinations including Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Falaknuma, Umdanagar, Medchal and Ghatkesar, providing an important public transport alternative for daily commuters.
Transport planners believe modern suburban railway infrastructure plays a critical role in reducing dependence on private vehicles, easing road congestion and lowering transport-related emissions. Improved station accessibility also encourages greater use of multimodal travel by integrating rail with buses, metro services and last-mile connectivity. The redevelopment is part of a wider investment programme covering 40 railway stations across Telangana under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Infrastructure specialists say station upgrades can stimulate surrounding urban development while improving the quality, safety and efficiency of public transport networks. As Hyderabad’s technology and business districts continue to expand, investment in commuter rail infrastructure is expected to become increasingly important for supporting sustainable urban growth.
