A Telangana State Police home guard deputed to the Railway Protection Force has been arrested and removed from service after a video showed him allegedly assaulting a woman outside Hafeezpet Railway Station in Hyderabad. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ramesh said the personnel, identified as Anand, was taken into custody and would be produced before a magistrate for judicial remand.
The action followed the circulation of a video on social media showing the home guard allegedly beating the woman and dragging her by her hair near the railway station. Officials said the incident was examined after the video became public and that criminal and disciplinary proceedings were initiated.
In a video statement, Commissioner Ramesh said Anand had been arrested in connection with the assault. He also said the home guard had been removed from the rolls and that his name would be struck off. “We do not tolerate any such instances of violence against women, crime against women,” Ramesh said, adding that Telangana Police followed a policy of zero tolerance towards crimes against women.
Telangana Director General of Police CV Anand said the conduct shown in the video could not be accepted, irrespective of the personnel’s rank or the circumstances cited as provocation. “Such behaviour by our staff, whatever be the rank and whatever be the provocation, cannot be forgiven. It is abominable and in total disregard of all instructions and training,” he said in a post on X.
The DGP said an enquiry had established that the home guard was on deputation to the Railway Police Force and was not attached to the local police. He directed the Cyberabad police commissioner to act immediately and said the personnel would be removed from service, a case would be registered and criminal action would follow.
South Central Railway said the incident at Hafeezpet Railway Station had been enquired into and that the personnel was identified as a Telangana State Police home guard deputed for duty at the station. The railway authority said he had been repatriated to the Telangana State Police department for necessary disciplinary action.
The case involves multiple agencies responsible for security and public order around railway facilities. The statements from Cyberabad Police, the Telangana Police leadership and South Central Railway indicate that the personnel’s deputation status was examined before action was taken. The next stated legal step is his production before a magistrate for judicial remand.
