Hyderabad: Indian Railways has expanded passenger capacity on key inter-state corridors by introducing additional seasonal train services linking Hyderabad, Mangaluru, Bilaspur and Yelahanka, responding to heightened travel demand during the summer holiday period. The move is expected to improve connectivity across southern and central India while easing pressure on heavily utilised long-distance routes.
The temporary services will operate through June and early July, providing extra accommodation for passengers travelling between major urban centres, emerging economic hubs and regional destinations. Transport planners view such interventions as increasingly important as passenger volumes continue to grow across India’s railway network. One of the newly introduced services will strengthen connectivity between Hyderabad and the coastal city of Mangaluru, linking Telangana with major commercial, educational and tourism centres across Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The route passes through several high-demand rail corridors that regularly witness capacity constraints during holiday seasons. The second special service connects Bilaspur in central India with Yelahanka on the outskirts of Bengaluru, improving access between industrial regions, technology centres and rapidly expanding urban markets. The route also serves important junctions across Telangana, creating additional travel options for passengers moving between northern and southern India.
Transport experts note that seasonal rail services play a critical role in supporting mobility while reducing dependence on road-based travel. Additional rail capacity can help accommodate growing passenger demand more efficiently, particularly during peak travel periods when highways and airports face increased congestion.
