Hyderabad Police Welfare Fund Scam Crosses Rs 1 Crore

More than Rs 1 crore was allegedly siphoned from the Hyderabad Police welfare fund, leading to the arrest of two employees by the Central Crime Station (CCS) police, according to Telangana Today. The alleged fraud took place at the City Armed Reserve (CAR) Headquarters in Petlaburj, where funds are maintained for the welfare of police personnel and other departmental requirements.

The arrested employees have been identified as Mohsin and Vinay. They are accused of forging the signatures of senior Indian Police Service officers on cheques drawn from the welfare fund account, according to information reported by Telangana Today.

The alleged diversion reportedly targeted interest earned on deposits rather than the principal amount. The suspects are alleged to have transferred the interest into other bank accounts while leaving the main deposits largely unchanged. This reportedly allowed the alleged misappropriation to continue for an extended period without substantially reducing the principal balance.

The case has drawn attention to the administration of institutional welfare funds, which are intended to support personnel and meet departmental requirements. In this instance, the funds were held at the CAR Headquarters in Petlaburj, a key administrative location for the Hyderabad Police Department.

The reported method involved the alleged use of forged signatures of senior IPS officers to authorise withdrawals. The available information does not specify the number of cheques involved, the period over which the alleged transactions took place, the number of bank accounts used or the exact amount attributed to each accused employee.

The arrests were made by the CCS police in connection with the alleged financial fraud. The available report does not provide further details on the sections invoked, the recovery of the allegedly diverted money, the response of the Hyderabad Police Department or the next stage of the investigation.
