Hyderabad Police Launches Transgender Coaching Drive for 2026 Jobs

The Malkajgiri police commissionerate has launched a transgender empowerment programme in Hyderabad that will provide examination coaching and hostel accommodation to 20 candidates preparing for the Telangana police recruitment process in 2026.

The four-month programme is designed to help transgender aspirants compete for constable and sub-inspector positions in the state police. The Department for Transgender Persons has sanctioned Rs 3.5 lakh for coaching and accommodation expenses after a request from Malkajgiri police commissioner G. Sumathi.

Sumathi inaugurated the programme and distributed study material to the selected candidates. The material covers Indian and Telangana history, arithmetic, reasoning, geography, current affairs and economics, which are among the subjects included in the written examination preparation.

The initiative is being coordinated by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Women Safety Wing police, in collaboration with Unique Coaching Centre and Kalpana Hostel in Dilsukhnagar. The arrangement combines academic preparation with accommodation support, allowing the selected candidates to attend the four-month coaching programme.

A dedicated WhatsApp group has also been created for candidates, police officers, departmental representatives, coaching faculty and hostel management. According to the commissionerate, the group will be used to monitor the candidates’ preparation and provide support during the programme.

The Women Safety Wing will separately explore suitable duty adjustments for serving traffic assistants from the transgender community so that they can attend coaching and physical fitness training. Any such adjustments will remain subject to departmental rules.

The programme places recruitment access within the operational framework of the police department rather than treating inclusion only as a general welfare measure. Its immediate focus is on helping candidates prepare for the written examination, while the proposed duty adjustments address the practical challenge of balancing existing police responsibilities with preparation and physical training.

The commissionerate has described the initiative as a first-of-its-kind programme in Telangana. Its stated objective is to support transgender candidates seeking entry into the state police as constables and sub-inspectors. Sumathi urged the aspirants to prepare with discipline and dedication and expressed hope that they would successfully join the force.

The next stage of the programme will involve the candidates’ four months of specialised coaching, hostel accommodation, study support and preparation for the 2026 police recruitment process.
