Hyderabad–Kollam Special Train Extended Till September 2026
Hyderabad’s rail connectivity with Kerala is set to receive a significant boost as Southern Railway has extended the Hyderabad–Kollam Express Special service until September 2026. The decision comes in response to sustained passenger demand on one of the key long-distance routes connecting Telangana with Kerala through Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The extension is expected to provide greater travel convenience for passengers, particularly during peak travel periods when ticket demand often exceeds available capacity. Railway authorities have approved 13 additional trips in each direction, helping ease congestion and improve reservation availability on the corridor. Under the revised schedule, the Hyderabad–Kollam Special will operate every Saturday from July 4 to September 26, 2026, while the return Kollam–Hyderabad service will run every Monday from July 6 to September 28, 2026. Officials have confirmed that the train will continue to operate with the existing timetable and stopping pattern.
The route serves as an important inter-state rail link connecting Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Major stations covered include Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Guntur, Nellore, Tirupati, Salem, Erode, Palakkad, Ernakulam and Kollam, providing connectivity for both long-distance and intermediate passengers. Transport experts note that special train extensions are often introduced on corridors witnessing consistently high occupancy levels. Such services help accommodate seasonal travel demand, support migrant workforce mobility and strengthen economic and social links between states.
The Hyderabad–Kerala corridor remains particularly important for students, working professionals, business travellers and families travelling between the two regions. Additional services are expected to improve travel flexibility and reduce waiting lists during busy periods. Railway officials have stated that reservations for the extended services will open shortly through the regular railway reservation system. Passengers will be able to book tickets through online and offline booking channels once the reservation window becomes available. The move reflects Indian Railways’ continued efforts to respond to passenger demand by expanding capacity on heavily utilised routes while improving long-distance connectivity across southern India.
